Mortgage/rent arrears, debt issues

Mortgage arrears, repossession and debt management
If you have problems paying the mortgage, or have debts you find difficult to meet, you may lose your home as a result. We may be able to help you to sort these out and prevent you losing your home. The Tameside Housing Advice Debt Advice is delivered by the council’s welfare rights and debt service and offers free, independent, confidential, support and assistance with debt problems.

The service can:
  • Check whether you are getting the correct benefits
  • Draw up a financial statement to see what money is available, if any, to pay creditors
  • Check liability for debts owed
  • Advise on what to pay first
  • Negotiate with creditors
  • Make applications to various trust funds for additional grants
  • Offer representation in the County Court and help complete any court paperwork
  • Give assistance in the Magistrates Court
  • Signpost to other advice agencies/information sources where necessary

If you would like to make a referral please contact our debt advisor on 0161 331 2700 or e-mail debtadvice@tamesidehousingadvice.org for a referral form. The fax number is 0161 339 1728.

In additional to the above please look at MINT Tameside
MINT is an alliance of a number of organisations all based within the Tameside area. All the partners share a vision of giving people the right tools and skills so that they can manage their personal finances and avoid the “debt trap”.
