Temporary accommodation

If you have nowhere is stay the council may have a duty to place you in temporary accommodation. This could be either within Tameside or if there are no places available, you could be placed outside of the borough.

Alternatively you could be placed in

Supported Accommodation units, where you will receive help and support in getting you ready to move on into your own accommodation.

If you are placed in temporary accommodation, an assessment of your support needs will be made, and you may be referred to accommodation more suitable for your needs.

You will also be given help and advice to enable you to make your stay a short as possible. This will include entering into a repayment plan to address any former tenant arrears you may have, and continuing to address any issues you may that could prevent you from securing permanent accommodation.

In exceptional circumstances you might be placed into Bed and Breakfast accommodation, if this is the case you will be moved into supported accommodation when a vacancy arises. This may happen at short notice.

If you have previously rented from a local council, housing association or private landlord any debt (rent and recharges) outstanding will need to be addressed. If you require help with your debts, a specialist debt advisor may be able to help. If you are currently involved with any professional agency (i.e. YOT/Probation/Connexions etc) you will be expected to maintain the requirement imposed as a reference will be needed. Failure to do any of the above could lead to losing your temporary accommodation
